Top Broadway Shows Opening This Spring

 

As Spring is starting to blossom, so is Broadway! Twenty new shows and musicals are coming to the stage but check out the buzziest performances to see in the coming months below. Whether you’re looking for fun pop music, “Hell’s Kitchen” and “The Who’s Tommy” are going to be hits. For those who love literature, “The Notebook”, “The Outsiders” and “Water for Elephants” are musical adaptations of bestselling novels. It is an incredibly exciting season for Broadway ahead of the Tony Award nominations on April 30th and the award ceremony on June 16th.

The Notebook

Opened on March 14th, Nicholas Sparks’ best-selling novel that inspired the iconic film, is now a musical on Broadway. It is a love story that follows Allie and Noah, who are from different worlds but share a story of love despite their life obstacles that try to pull them apart. The musical includes a score by multi-platinum singer-songwriter, Ingrid Michaelson.

Water For Elephants

Sarah Gruen’s best-selling novel comes to life in a unique musical on Broadway. It is about a young man who has lost almost everything and hops onto a moving train unsure of where it will take him. He finds a new home with a traveling circus who is on the train and finds a new life and love on this adventure. Water for Elephants is directed by Tony Award nominee Jessica Stone with a book by three-time Tony nominee Rick Elice. Opened on March 21st.

The Who’s Tommy

In 1969, The Who created a rock opera that changed the course of music history. Now showing on Broadway, the 5-time Tony Award-winning sensation returns in a dazzling new production. Opened on March 28th.

 
 
 

The Outsiders

Adapted from S.E. Hinton’s seminal book and Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic film, the Outsiders is based in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1967 about a boy named Ponyboy Curtis and his best friend Johnny Cade and their Greaser family of “outsiders” with their rivals The Socs. It is a story of friendship, family, self-discovery and belonging. Opens on April 11th.

 
 
 

Lempicka

Featuring Eden Espinosa and from the Tony Award winning director of Hadestown, Lempicka is a true story and musical portrait about a woman who changed art and culture forever. The musical is told through a thrilling and pop-infused score and shows the hardships that renowned artist, Tamara de Lempicka has gone through during her life. Opens on April 14th.

 
 
 

Hell’s Kitchen

Featuring music and lyrics by 15-time Grammy winner, Alicia Keys, Hell’s Kitchen is a new musical that is based in the mid 90’s and is inspired by Alicia’s own NY experience. It is about 17-year-old Ali who lives in an apartment in Hell’s Kitchen and wants to find explore all the possibilities that are outside in the world despite her protective mother. She finds herself, as well as freedom and love, with the help of a wise piano teacher who helps her find her voice. Hell’s Kitchen is a musical about chasing your dreams and finding your voice while still honoring your roots. Directed by 4-time Tony Award nominee Michael Greif, with choreography by Tony Award nominee Camille A. Brown. Opens on April 20th.

 
 
 

Cabaret

With Academy and Tony Award winner, Eddie Redmayne as the Emcee, and Gayle Rankin as Sally Bowles, CABARET is a groundbreaking new production of Kander and Ebb’s classical musical where artists and performers rule the night at the Kit Kat Club. Opens on April 20th.
