Celebrate Mother’s Day with a Stunning Cocktail
Mother’s Day always lands on the 2nd Sunday of May every year, meaning brunch reservations and early dinner reservations are always tough to snag regardless of your party size. Because of how important it is to celebrate the matriachs in our lives, the holiday is known to be the busiest day of the year along with Valentine’s Day! If you are looking for some different ideas this year, perhaps taking a special mom, whether it be your wife, mother or looking for a place to grab amazing cocktails on Mom’s night out, we have put together a list of our favorite cocktail bars in New York City that we think would be perfect for a celebration!
The Champagne Bar at the Plaza
The Champagne Bar began as the Champagne Porch, which was introduced with the hotel’s opening in 1907. The Porch was a seasonal outdoor restaurant with only ten tables, patronized by the likes of Diamond Jim Brady and the Prince of Wales. Today’s Champagne Bar was beautifully renovated in 2014 and is located adjacent to The Plaza’s lobby and Fifth Avenue foyer. Overlooking Fifth Avenue and The Pulitzer Fountain, The Champagne Bar is a fabulously elegant dining venue. Celebrate by night with the finest champagne, caviar and wines. By day, indulge in freshly baked pastries, light gourmet fare, and specialty coffees. The Champagne Bar is open for Breakfast, Lite Fare and Cocktail services.
Ophelia
At first, it may feel awkward strolling through a quiet apartment building’s bright lobby at 9pm, bypassing the doormen and hustling into a packed elevator with three cranky, middle-aged European tourists. But once you reach the 26th floor of Beekman Tower, Ophelia’s sultry old-world appeal instantly clicks. The bar—once named Top of the Tower—even served oh-so-casual customers like Frank Sinatra and Frank Zappa.
Valerie
Located in midtown, one of Manhattan’s most iconic and lively neighborhoods, Valerie’s dynamic space pays homage to Manhattan’s Golden Age and it’s existing timeless architecture. The Decorative components reflect a nostalgic artful mix of old and new, moody and refined. Like Manhattan itself, Valerie’s essence belongs to the past and has aspirations for the future.
Valerie’s bones are strong, traditional building materials such as tile, brass, marble, and smoked mirrors. Contrasting feminine touches echo throughout the space in soft inviting details, with wall coverings of burlesque dancers and dark floral patterns.
Madame George
Madame George is an intimate subterranean cocktail lounge with an effortlessly elegant interior. Step from the busy streets of Manhattan into a whimsical space, where luxe textures and bright accents form a striking canvas for creative cocktails and shareable bites.
The first annual menu is inspired by New York City through the ages. We strive to evoke multiple senses of our guests. With eye catching presentation and aromatics a plenty, all hoping to trigger your own relationship with the city that never sleeps.
Elsie Rooftop
Perched 25 stories high over Bryant Park is Elsie Rooftop, an all-season rooftop that boasts progressive mixology, high teas and a seasonally focused light fare menu. The lounge is named after actress, interior decorator and author Elsie de Wolfe, who is also known for creating the first penthouse in the 1920’s. Menu highlights include a Margarita Flatbread, Truffled Grilled Cheese and Tuna Tartare, while cocktail concoctions include the Elsie De Wolfe—Ketel One Cucumber and Mint, lemon, rose water and Chandon sparkling rosé—and the London Society—Bulleit Rye, Montenegro, black tea, honey and lemon.
Veranda Soho
With a separate entrance on 6th Avenue, this outdoor oasis—complete with tiered gardens, a fireplace, and a variety of seating—combines style and convenience. On the menu: cocktails, wine, and light bites, like flatbreads and croquettes. It’s the perfect spot for a corporate cocktail event, a business lunch, or a post-conference tipple.
