St. Regis Punta Mita Reimagined

Meet Guelman Ros, General Manager of The St. Regis Punta Mita who shares how his incredible staff serves from the heart and how his passion for creating distinctive experiences exude style and glamor throughout the resort.

Hailing from Barcelona, Gonzalo Güelman Ros has spent over 30 years in the luxury hospitality industry across several iconic brands in multiple countries. He was appointed General Manager of The St. Regis Punta Mita in 2022, where he has spent the past years navigating the hotel through an extensive renovation.

Why did you choose to lead the helm at St. Regis Punta Mita?

I discovered the destination during my time at The Four Seasons Punta Mita. From there I moved to the Four Seasons Nevis where I developed a passion for re-creating the magic of resorts. When I was approached by St. Regis, my family was excited to come back to this area and it gave me the opportunity to tap into my passion of re-imagining what made this such a special destination.

What are 3 reasons to choose Punta Mita over other areas in Mexico?

To me, Punta Mita offers an authentic Mexican experience in what I think is the most sophisticated destination on the pacific coast of Mexico.

Within our resort, you have everything from golf and tennis to spa and incredible food or you can easily venture out to surf or stroll through the charming town of Sayulita.

What’s new at the resort following your major renovation?

We spent the past two years completing an expansive renovation that encompassed the entire resort. In 2024, we turn 15 so the renovation is the perfect way to celebrate.

Where is the postcard shot at your property?

Definitely our sunsets. My personal preference is when we do our nightly Champagne Sabrage at The St. Regis Bar overlooking our infinity pool, Sakana. What I love most is every single sunset is different and we enjoy them year-round. I cannot even begin to describe the variations in colors from yellows to pinks to purples that we see each day.

What is the most luxurious accommodation at St. Regis Punta Mita and what are your favorite features?

Our Presidential Villa is our largest at 3,100 sq. ft. and offers 3 bedrooms, a full kitchen, spacious living area, private pool & hot tub and of course direct beach access. Our butlers and culinary team can arrange an intimate tequila tasting or family BBQ on the beach during your stay.

What’s your favorite place to have coffee in the morning on property?

Coffee is a daily ritual for me, but I cannot say I just limit it to the mornings. Something I did shortly after arriving was overhaul our entire coffee experience. We partnered with Nespresso and brought in their commercial machines for our guests in the lobby and at breakfast as well as installed their latest machines in every guest room. Now you can get an amazing cup of coffee anywhere in the resort.

How would you describe the design and décor of the beachfront villas?

Calming. We wanted to work with a Mexican designer so chose Bibi Huber from Guadalajara. In the end, we were able to elevate the Mexican style by offering an authentic, modern design. The aesthetics incorporate a lot of earthtones and natural materials, so the villas perfectly compliment the surroundings instead of competing with them.

What are some of your personal favorite activities in the area?

We do an amazing BBQ on the beach! You can join our chef to select fresh fish caught that day and we will prepare it for you or your group at a private dinner. Whether it is a romantic dinner for two or a multi-generational family get-together, it is always a hit. We also do a livelier sunset “Oysters & Champagne” at our adult pool, Sakana with a DJ.

Can you tell us a little about your culinary offerings and favorite dishes?

We have 5 restaurants at the resort and from Mita Mary, our new Beach Club that offers Pacific Coast flavors and fresh fish to pizza in our wood-fired pizza oven, to a fine dining experience in our signature restaurant, Carolina. Something I am very excited about is our upcoming “Supper Series” where we are bringing in Michelin and World-Renowned Chef’s. Our first is from February 27th – March 8th with Michelin-Star Chef Mauro Colagreco of the World’s Best Restaurant – Mirazur. Chef Maura has created an immersive tasting menu specifically for St. Regis Punta Mita fusing Mexican and French flavors.

What are you most proud of at your resort?

The staff and team here at the hotel because they genuinely care so much. They truly deliver from the heart, and you feel it. After going through an extensive renovation like we just completed, everyone is so excited to showcase our beautiful new resort and it brings me such pride.

What do you want Four Hundred members to know about your property?

I love the size of our resort. We have 120 casitas across 22 acres within the gates of Punta Mita, so guests never feel crowded but can easily walk across the resort.
