Thomas Jecklin, General Manager of Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve brings over three decades of hospitality experience to the role. Hailing from Switzerland, Thomas received a Bachelor’s degree from Hotel & Restaurant Management School. He launched his career as a waiter apprentice in Switzerland, working his way up the ranks and across the world, implementing innovative initiatives that continue to set new standards for luxury travel and underscore Zadún’s position as a leader within the destination. Since Zadún’s debut in late 2019, it has been recognized as one of the premier luxury travel experiences, offering a thoughtful and holistic immersion into this stunning locale.
Having gained a global perspective from a childhood spent in Mexico and Austria, Giuliana Torres Schernthaner began her hospitality career in Monterrey. After earning a degree in Hotel and Tourism Administration in Austria, she joined luxury hotel brands in Mexico and New York, before spearheading the creation of Solaz Resort, The Luxury Collection's first resort on the Baja Peninsula, as General Manager. Her enduring commitment to delivering memorable guest experiences has defined her distinguished career in the hospitality industry.
How would you each describe your destination and setting?
Zadún
Zadún is uniquely positioned where the desert meets the sea. Unfolding across 20 acres and tucked perfectly into the dunes, the property blends elegant design and distinctly private accommodations in a majestic backdrop. With an inherently beautiful and peaceful setting, all elements of the property were designed to celebrate indoor-outdoor living, with spaces that flow seamlessly out into nature, creating an oasis where our guests can recenter and recharge.

Solaz is nestled in an idyllic destination where the striking beauty of the desert seamlessly meets the vibrant blue waters of the Sea of Cortez. Nestled along the stunning coastline of Los Cabos, Solaz offers a captivating setting that combines natural splendor with architectural excellence. What are some of your favorite experiences that guests shouldn’t miss?
Zadún
The team puts an incredible amount of care into designing our offerings to ensure unforgettable, immersive programming. There are so many exceptional experiences, it is hard to choose one. For example, one of my favorite culinary experiences is our Fish Market, where we showcase local fishermen’s very best catch-of-the-day fare. Guests are able to select from a special ocean-to-table menu, guided by one of our culinary experts. It is a fun and engaging evening in a truly unforgettable setting at Equis. There is also El Panadero, who delivers freshly baked Mexican pastries each morning by bike – there is no better way to start the day. For those who are interested in spirits, I always recommend our Agave journey, an exploration that brings to life the subtle differences between each. Our holistic wellness haven, Spa Alkemia, is an absolute must visit when at Zadún. The 30,000 square-foot oasis is home to our Savasana Sound Room, which is one of the only spaces of its kind in the world, where sound therapy and a vibrational floor help guests tap into a deep meditative state. Lastly, our Ambassadors of the Environment programming encourages guests to explore the surrounding nature and culture of the area. These experiences are great for all ages, such as our history of chocolate where participants learn about the beloved treat and then create their own chocolate drink with the team. It’s a lot of fun and a delicious activity for all.

What’s your favorite place to have coffee in the morning on property?
Zadún
Our café, Azul, is a gem. It has everything from coffee to breads and pastries freshly baked in house each day, to a collection of smoothies and juices. I love to sit there early in the morning, enjoy a cup of coffee and take in the surroundings.

As the sun begins to rise and the gentle breeze fills the air, there's no better place to start your day than Mako. Can you tell us a little about your culinary offerings and favorite dishes?
Zadún
Zadún is not only home to a number of distinct restaurants, but we also offer a variety of rotating programming, such as the Fish Market I referenced earlier. El Barrio is our all-day restaurant that presents a street food inspired experience during the day and celebration of the very best Mexican cuisine by night. Highlights include Torrejas for breakfast, the Baja Poke for lunch, and I particularly love our La Taqueria and La Cantina Experience by night, where the team implements innovative and special menus during the week. At Equis, visitors enjoy the freshest seafood with striking views. The Peruvian ceviche and fish tacos are two of my particular favorites. Humo presents a refined dining experience with dishes that celebrate open fire cooking. The octopus, rib eye, and salmon steak are among my top dishes. We also regularly collaborate with global talents in the culinary and mixology spaces on pop-ups at the hotel, such as Handshake Bar and Chef Diego Munoz, which have been incredibly popular.

The Savasana Sound Room is undoubtedly one of the most unique wellness experiences. The space is one of the only one in existence and blends sound therapy with a vibrational floor that is designed to help guests quiet their mind, relax and revitalize. We also recently introduced our new Templo de Calor and Ancestral Temazcal Purification Ritual. The healing therapy is guided by a Shaman and promotes detoxification for improved health and a holistic energetic shift. You also can never go wrong with a Zadún massage!
