At Justice in Motion, we ensure justice across borders for migrants. Between 2017 and 2018, when the U.S. government forcibly separated thousands of migrant children from their parents at the U.S. – Mexico border, we immediately jumped into action. We mobilized our on-the-ground Defender Network of human rights lawyers and organizations across Mexico and Central America to collaborate with U.S. lawyers and help find the parents deported without their children. Since that time, Justice in Motion has played a vital role in finding and supporting parents no one else could reach.

Two months ago, a federal court approved a settlement agreement in a class action lawsuit brought on behalf of immigrant parents who were wrongfully separated from their children. While the settlement offers these families a new opportunity to apply for asylum, it does not provide them with a lawyer to help them. This has left separated families with yet another burden: finding and affording an attorney or being forced to seek asylum without one.

Separated families deserve justice. At a bare minimum, that means legal representation and a real chance to remain safe and reunited in the United States. That’s why Justice in Motion is relying on the power of community and joining forces with Al Otro Lado, the Young Center, Kids in Need of Defense (KIND), the National Immigration Project, and Together and Free, to raise $3 million for legal representation to support approximately 500 separated parents and children in 2024.

It’s going to take a collective effort to make sure hundreds of separated families get the support they need to file asylum claims that could allow them to remain permanently in the United States with their children.

Donations received through this collaborative fundraising effort will be pooled and allocated to our collective who can provide free, high-quality legal representation to these families in their asylum cases.  Please join us in helping families remain together by giving here.
