Crystal Anniversary of the Cayman Cookout
Meet Marc Langevin, General Manager at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman who shares his first impressions of arriving in paradise, his favorite island activities and the upcoming, extraordinary experiences planned for the Crystal Anniversary of the Cayman Cookout, held from January 10-15, 2024.
Tell us about your first impression of the island?
When I arrived in Grand Cayman almost 20 years ago, I was immediately captivated by the sheer beauty and tranquility of the island. From the crystal-clear turquoise waters to the pristine white sand beaches, it was paradise personified. The warmth and friendliness of the local residents, coupled with the luxurious ambiance, made an indelible impression on me. The Cayman Islands truly embody the essence of luxury and relaxation.
What are some of your favorite island experiences guests shouldn’t miss?
So many to mention, but most are in or around the water… Bioluminescent kayaking, underwater scooters, snorkeling at Eden Rock, Starfish Point, Stingray City and sunset sailing. The island offers a spectacular dining scene too - there’s a plethora of world-class foodie experiences to explore.
What’s new at The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman?
Our Ladies and Gentlemen are committed to continually evolving and providing the most unforgettable experiences for our guests. At the moment, we are working on expanding our pickleball offering and adding two more courses to the existing two. In addition to that, we have just started the process of reimaging the Ambassadors of the Environment experience – soon we will have a beautiful, new, activity center for our guests to embark on immersive activities such as mangrove forest kayaking and nighttime snorkeling. We are also preparing for a big celebration in January – 15 years of Cayman Cookout.
Tell us more about Cayman Cookout?
What began as a small event to recognize the exceptional quality of the islands' culinary offerings led by our friend, partner, and wonderful host, Chef Eric Ripert, has now evolved into one of the most unique food and beverage celebrations, attracting top culinary talent, sommeliers, master distillers and wine producers. It truly is the epitome of exclusive culinary festivals, granting guests an extraordinary weekend dedicated to indulging their senses.
How has Cayman Cookout changed since it first started?
Over the years, the event has grown, although not in size but in status, as we always have been cautious to protect the intimacy of the event, ensuring all participants enjoy a quality time and have the ability to connect and develop personal relationships in a relaxed yet refined ambiance.
Who from top talent can we expect to meet at Cayman Cookout 2024?
Prepare to rub shoulders with Chef Eric Ripert, José Andrés, Angie Mar, Enrique Olvera, Andrew Zimmern, Antonio Bachour, Emeril Lagasse to name a few.
What’s your favorite Cayman Cookout experience?
It’s impossible to choose only one favorite event with each experience offering its unique charm and culinary delights. I look forward to catching a few lionfish with Chef José Andrés and indulging in an exclusive lunch in Jamaica during a private jet adventure with Chef Eric Ripert. Also, the Grand Finale at Blue by Eric Ripert is always spectacular, provided I can get there on time following some friendly competition at Ripert and Petanque encounter at Andiamo Beach held just before it.
Are you planning anything special to celebrate the 15th year’s anniversary of Cayman Cookout?
Absolutely! Alongside our wonderful host, Chef Eric Ripert, our creative team has once more curated a myriad of events that promise a once-in-a-lifetime experience. In 2024, Cayman Cookout presents an exciting addition of thrilling adventures, with an entire new day of bespoke experiences. Guests will also have the opportunity to embark on a private jet with Chef Eric Ripert, tee off with Chef Andrew Zimmern, fish the deep sea with Chef Emeril Lagasse or scuba dive alongside Chef José Andrés.
