Meet Rick Ueno, General Manager of W South Beach. Fresh off a 30-million-dollar guestroom renovation, inspired by Miami Beach’s evolution as the “American Riviera”, Rick shares the new vibe and favorite spots at W South Beach.

 
 
 
 

Rick Ueno, General Manager of W South Beach has more than 30 years of luxury hospitality experience in major metropolitan markets, including Chicago, Hawaii, Dallas and San Antonio, Rick oversees operations for the luxury hotel that has garnered international attention since opening ocean-side on bustling Collins Avenue in 2009. Most recently, Rick led the reopening of the resort after a $30 million renovation in November 2020. W South Beach was also named W Hotel of the Year by W Hotels in 2022.

What are some of your favorite on property experiences that guests shouldn’t miss? 

From day to night experience an array of experiences. Start your morning with either a HIITT Workout Class by DOGPOUND or Restorative Flow with Ahana Yoga. Head on over to soak in the sun either poolside or beachside with special delights at both. Explore our robust offerings at Away Spa for a mid-afternoon break. 

 What’s your favorite place to have coffee in the morning on property? 

By Irma’s in the Grove, where the morning light peaks in through the palms. 

Do you have any secret spots around the hotel? 

Living room bar terrace, where you can catch me smoking authentic cigars. It’s where I host my weekly Cigars with GM offering where I get to meet our guests.

Tell us about the WET Deck and WET Cabanas? 

Relax, indulge, and submerge poolside. At peak hours we have offer an array of delights from a personalized sunglass butler, chilled face towels, and tropical smoothies to keep you hydrated. We also have 10 cabanas to select from for an even more personalized experience.

What are some of your favorite guest programming in October onwards? 

We are working on exciting programming offerings geared towards festive season from holistic wellness offerings, surprise and delights found across property and a family friendly entertainment series. 

What is the experience like at your DOGPOUND Fitness? 

With our DOGPOUND residency program we offer morning HIIT classes or private sessions to SMASH your fitness goals. 

 
 
 

What new things can we expect from the resort in 2023 and beyond?  

With our recently renovated ballroom, a space transformation space with projection mapping walls. Being the only hotel with this technology it will open doors to an array of groups and brands to activate.  Additionally, stay tuned for exciting updates with our Food Beverage outlets and Entertainment experiences.
